What are we working on now?

We have just completed our new long range plan that lays out some of our goals for the next five years. Right now though we've sent our stained glass window out for repair through N.E. Stained Glass.  We are also working diligently in our museum in collaboration with the Warren 250th committee to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.   See our display online as we add new items each week.

What have we done so far?

We've accomplished a lot at the library and we're just getting started.  Here's some of the things we completed.

  • Updated Croade St. entrance and added a new gender-neutral accessible bathroom with the help of Haynes / deBoeur architects and Deslandes Construction with funding from the Champlin Foundation and the Warren Heritage Foundation

  • Finished repairing the front entrance turret and roof with Renaissance Roofing and JD Masonry and funding from the Champlin Foundation

  • Staton Landscaping put in new plantings at our side entrance

  • Purchased a new handicap accessible drop box with funding from Newport Bank

  • Improved our back door entrance with a new door, railing and pathway with funds from RI Interlocal Trust

  • JD Masonry fixed the skirt around our building an cleaned our front steps with a grant from the Warren Heritage Foundation

  • Redid our staff kitchen with support from the Friends of the Library

We'd like to thank the George Hail Free Library Board of Trustees for their continued guidance and financial support as well as the donations we receive from our patrons.  We couldn't do this with you!

Please look for information regarding our ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this major update to our building.  Thank you.

Built in 1887, George Hail Library is a beautiful, historical building that continues to be a focal point on the Warren, RI skyline and an invaluable resource for our patrons and community. The library staff and Board of Trustees work hard to maintain the site and preserve its integrity while keeping its facilities updated and accessible for the Warren community.
